Our Story

THE BEGINNING

The World of Pentecost (known at that time as the United Pentecostal Church) conducted its first service February 19, 1984 in a little storefront at 256 W. Davis Street. A piano and pulpit were set up and 24 chairs were arranged in the 20′ x 40′ sanctuary in anticipation of what God would do. Advertisements placed in local newspapers proclaimed, “Come and visit Burlington’s newest church.” As a result, on that first Sunday, 23 chairs were filled with souls- with only one empty chair! Pastor Godair felt God telling him, “See, I have filled twenty-three chairs. Now, you fill the last one!”

MOVING FORWARD

After 5 years of steady growth, the congregation was able to purchase a former Methodist Church at 315 Spence Street, beginning with just a sanctuary, fellowship hall and limited parking.
As the church continued to grow, additional acreage was purchased around the church along with a house used for Sunday School classes, totaling 4.5 acres. Our Spanish congregation, Mundo Pentecostal, presently worships in this location.

CURRENT LOCATION

In December 2005, with great celebrations and heartfelt praise to God, the church held the first service in the newly constructed building located near Interstate 40. Over the past 18 years, in this location, the church has acquired additional property, along with several houses, giving us 21 acres surrounding the church. With a strong emphasis on outreach, 10 vans are filled with people from our community every Sunday between our 2 church locations.
World of Pentecost is a giving church that has helped establish daughter works in this area and churches in other countries. Building plans are awaiting city approval to add a new Family Life Center and new Spanish Church on our present property. All of our properties are completely debt free. To God be the Glory!
